MP Jim Eglinski Questions the Government During Debate on Bill C-18
November 24, 2016
OTTAWA: On November 24th, Jim Eglinski, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, during debate on Bill C-18, ‘An Act to Amend the Rouge National Urban Park Act, the Parks Canada Agency Act and the Canada National Parks Act,’ asked the following:
“Mr. Speaker, I was somewhat alarmed when the minister focused on ecological integrity. I am very glad to see that my comrade has concerns, as I do.
The minister stated that she met with environmental representatives. What about the rail, highway, or air corridors through there? All she mentioned was that she met with environmental representatives, who are going to push ecological integrity of that area. The designing of that park is going to be no different than Banff or Jasper, which are now plagued with traffic problems. They have railroads and major highways through them, as well as the air corridor. Adding ecological integrity is going to become a stumbling block for Parks Canada.
I wonder if the member would reply to that.”
