RESIDENTS OF YELLOWHEAD HAVE SPOKEN
September 30, 2016
OTTAWA: Jim Eglinski, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, today released the survey results of his householder on electoral reform.
Of 1,903 responses from 1,042 households, 95% of residents want the Government to hold a referendum on changing Canada’s voting system.
“I am pleased that so many residents in our riding took the time to voice their opinion. Prime Minister Justice Trudeau and his Liberal Government are trying to change what a vote means – without giving all Canadians a say. Politicians and party insiders should not have this power. Only the Canadian people should determine how Canadians elect their governments,” said MP Eglinski.
The Liberal Government has claimed their 2015 election victory gives them a mandate to change the voting system in whatever way they want. Yet, they still haven’t told Canadians what system they want to implement. Even though a committee was established, the Federal Liberal Government will be deciding, behind closed doors, on the changes to the way we vote.
“I strongly believe that all voters in Canada must have the opportunity to provide input, and the only way for every Canadian to be heard is through a referendum,” concluded MP Eglinski.
