Call for World Heritage Site Proposals

 August 11, 2016

OTTAWA –Jim Eglinski, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, is pleased to inform residents of a call for proposals to update Canada’s Tentative List for World Heritage Sites.

Yellowhead’s own Jasper National Park is one of the seven parks within the Canadian Rockies that are currently recognized as a World Heritage Site. Known for its striking mountain landscape, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, and canyons, the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks possess exceptional natural beauty, attracting millions of visitors annually.

“Regions within the rest of the beautiful riding of Yellowhead also hold natural and historic potential, from Sulphur Gates in the north to the unique boreal forest ecosystem that spreads into the south,” said MP Eglinski.

The six-month application period will end on January 27, 2017, after which an advisory committee will be established and tasked with reviewing all the applications submitted across Canada.

“I encourage residents to submit an application to Parks Canada to help showcase what their community and the riding of Yellowhead has to offer,” concluded MP Eglinski.
