First Installment of Federal Gas Tax Delivered to Province

July 25, 2017

OTTAWA:  Jim Eglinski, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, is pleased to advise that the Federal Government has delivered the first of two annual $109.5 million federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) installments to Alberta.

In total, the province will be provided with over $219 million this year through the fund. The Federal Government has announced that the funding, which flows through the provincial government to all of its municipalities, is now available to support community infrastructure projects.

“Community infrastructure helps to connect people to jobs and it provides access to better community services, attracts new businesses and creates economic growth,” stated MP Eglinski.

GTF funding is allocated to municipalities on a per capita basis. Municipalities can pool, bank and borrow against this funding, providing significant financial flexibility. Unspent capital funds may be carried forward a total of five years.
